On May 23rd a ballot will be sent to all Key Biscayne registered voters, on 3 charter amendments. As worded, the first amendment proposed would require a vote by Village residents on any changes to zoning definitions and regulations.
Please carefully read the wording of the referendum before voting on whether zoning issues should be decided by those residents motivated to vote on specific issues or by our elected officials, with community input.
The effective date of this amendment, if passed, would be June 23rd, 2007 and would have no effect on decisions previously made by Village Council on any issues including those concerning the Sonesta property.
The ballots will be mailed on May 23rd, and must be received (not postmarked) by June 12th. Ballots can be returned by mail or dropped off at the Village Clerk’s Office until 4:00 p.m. on June 12th.

Key Biscayne residents are advised that large crowds are expected at a Memorial Day Concert in Virginia Key. The concert starts at 11:00 pm Sunday, May 27, and finishes at 5:00 am Monday, May 28.
Traffic coming onto Key Biscayne will be heavy late Sunday evening. Traffic management will be provided by Miami-Dade and City of Miami police. Village of Key Biscayne police will monitor the event.

The MSD Biscayne Nature Center is hosting the "Summer by the Sea" Marine Science Day Camp in June 2007. Become a Certified Ocean Explorer and discover how you can join the Team of Environmental Stewards! Students will participate in field science programs in the diverse ecological habitats within the Preserve, including sea grass, mangroves, ancient fossil reef.
Campers must be between the ages of 7 and 14 of age and placed according their experience in the water. Children younger than 8 will be placed in the beginning camp sessions. Cost of camp is $295 for one week or $500 for two weeks.

Beginning June 4th, The Marine Biology Camp, presented by Director Gerald Loisel for the Village of Key Biscayne.
Mr. Loisel has taught Marine Biology to students of all ages for the past 29 years and he brings his experience for a week long camp for kids 8 to 14 years old. The 5 day session is limited to 15, so register early!

Are you a Building Security Manager or Business owner? Do you have a hurricane pass? If you qualify, you may apply to be in the second group of people allowed to enter the Key after a hurricane to assess the damage to their building structures.
The Village of Key Biscayne Police Administration Office must receive all applications for passes on or before June 1, 2007. The passes will be issued between June 1 and June 30th, with no passes issued 5 days prior to a hurricane.
