Keep your eye out for the July/August Home Edition of Key Biscayne Magazine

Most people tell me I am a different person when I am at home. You probably are too. What is it about our home environment that makes our true personalities come through? I think it's got something to do with being at ease.

Everyone teases me because they know as soon as they walk into my home I will place a cup of tea in front of them. I have my own tea ceremony, which includes an intricate preparation of Earl Grey, Darjeeling and Sadaf tea, poured into one of my favorite teapots. I place the teapot on a china stand, heated with a scented votive candle. Tiny sugar cubes are a necessary complement and, of course, I serve it in delicate teacups placed on a shiny red tray.

My theory is that tea should not be served until it turns a toasted caramel color. If the color is too light on the first pouring, I pour it back into the teapot because, as the saying goes, "the first cup of tea is for the teapot."

This ritual has sustained hours of conversation. It's my way of showing that I care; it's my way of saying welcome to my abode. Our homes have objects and values that reflect our lives. Our space is a fingerprint of who we are. Your house is your castle and there is nothing more beautiful that welcoming someone into it.

For this, our home edition, we have had the pleasure of being welcomed into several Key Biscayne homes. This issue also features interior designers who are in the business of creating unique spaces. They will surely agree with me that, no matter how outstanding a home is, it's the people who live there that create the ambience. An open heart and an open door are qualities to be admired.

Look out for our September fashion issue and November entertainment issue. If you have any ideas or comments please send an email to Sabrina Azadi: editor@keybiscaynemag.com or call 305-903-6445.
