Pesqueira Gallery presents -- Art East * Art West PaperWorks -- Four FREE illustrated talks on Western artists and Eastern influences by Ruth Rosenwasser

Works on paper from Asia, such as Japanese woodblock prints and Persian miniature paintings became popular during the 19th century in the west. Modernism, with its emphasis on flat fields of color, owns much to the art of the east. Artists such as Whistler, Degas, Toulouse-Lautrec, and Matisse, collected prints, scrolls, and paintings and were inspired and influenced by Eastern techniques and motifs.

Ruth Rosenwasser is a writer, photographer, lecturer and specialist on Asian art. She is curatorial consultant for South Asia art at the Lowe Art Museum. She has taught comparative art history as a member of the adult education faculties at FIU and University of Miami. She also leads group tours to India.

Tuesday, March 9. 8 PM -- Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, and Japanese prints.

Tuesday, March 16. 8 PM -- Henri Matisse and Persian miniature paintings.

Tuesday, March 23. 8 PM -- Eugene Delacroix and his Moroccan notebooks.

Tuesday, March 30. 8 PM -- Edgar Degas, Mary Cassatt and Japonisme.

March 11, 12 & 13 -- Oscar Heyman & Brothers. -- 10am to 8pm

Sabbia Fine Jewelry will be presenting a special showing of Oscar Heyman Jewelry.

Oscar Heyman & Brothers, founded in 1912, is a New York manufacturer of the very finest precious stone jewelry; one of a handful of family-owned shops still dedicated to European-style craftsmanship and "by hand" fabrication.

The family of six brothers and three sisters emigrated from Latvia in the early 1900's. Having apprenticed at a faberge workshop in Russia, two of the brothers had extensive experience with platinum, a new metal at that time. Another brother was skilled at toolmaking. Together, they were able to establish a self-contained company where quality could be monitored at all stages. To this day, the firm continues to make its own tools, alloy its own platinum and gold as well as design and create each piece of jewelry to demanding specifications.
